What does Disney offer for people that have a hard time walking

    Hi David, welcome to planDisney!

Walt Disney World Resort offers many options for those who may require mobility assistance during their visit. It can be surprising how much walking can be done in a day at the theme parks, so it is great that you are researching your choices now.

Walt Disney World Resort offers Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs) to rent for your time in theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. Currently, you can rent an ECV daily for $50 a day, with a refundable deposit. The refundable deposit is currently $20 for ECV rentals in the theme parks, and $100 in the water parks and at Disney Springs. These prices are subject to change.

ECVs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis so I recommend that you arrive at the theme parks earlier in the day to rent one. These ECVs cannot leave the theme park where it was rented. However, if you are visiting another theme park you can show your rental receipt to rent an ECV from the next park, subject to availability.

If you’d like to have an ECV available throughout your entire visit to Walt Disney World Resort, Scooterbug is the Disney Featured Provider for ECV and wheelchair rentals. This provider can deliver and pick up the ECV at your Disney Resort hotel for your convenience. You can visit their website to determine the rental fee for your length of stay.

Wheelchair rentals are also available in theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. Prices are subject to change, but at this time, the daily rental rate is $12 a day with a refundable deposit that varies based on where you are renting from.  Multi-day rentals may also be available depending on the time of year.

If you rent a mobility device, I recommend checking the Attraction Access Categories before visiting the theme parks. You can view which attractions will allow you to remain in your wheelchair or ECV, where you may have to transfer to a wheelchair, or where you may be required to walk. This accessibility list also describes how you can access each of the Walt Disney World Resort Transportation options while you are using an ECV or wheelchair.

I recommend finding the attractions you can experience that will allow your legs and feet time to rest. There are many shows and entertainment options in each theme park. For example, in Magic Kingdom Park, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is a great place to sit and listen as “the birds sing words and the flowers croon.”  Visit Mickey’s PhilharMagic and enjoy the 3D experience of your favorite Disney movie scenes. And take a “grand circle tour of the Magic Kingdom” on the Walt Disney World Railroad. These are just a few of the choices you can make in Magic Kingdom Park, each theme park has entertainment options for you to enjoy without having to spend too much time on your feet!

I hope this gave you some ideas for your upcoming visit, David. I’m glad you’re preparing early so you can enjoy your vacation from the moment you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort! If you have any future questions, come see me again at planDisney!
