Hi Marie! I bet your little girl must be a sweet one to get to spend her 6th birthday in Walt Disney World!
Being chose as Grand Marshal of any of the Walt Disney World parades is a great honor. It is completely random, though, unless it is a pre-planned guest, such as a celebrity or dignitary, and there is no process to go through to sign up to do this.
Based on past experiences of some people I know who have been chosen for this, the best advice I can give you is to arrive at the Park very early, at "Rope Drop" if possible, have everyone in your group wear some great, eye-catching shirts and/or hats or Ears, and hang around Main Street, or the entrance areas of the particular park you are visiting. There are Cast Members who are out and about, looking for some nice people to surprise!
I was chosen once, during Magic Kingdom's 25th Anniversary Celebration, to be a "dancer" on stage at the special celebration show with the characters! That was so much fun, and an experience I will never forget! I remember that I just happened to flash a dazzling smile at the right Cast Member near Exposition Hall that morning, and that got my foot in the door, so to speak!
