We are going to Disney in October but only able to go to Disney for one day. I have a 2 1/2 year old and was wondering what is the best park to go to and what are some recommedations that you may have. As far as rides, times to go, places to eat.

    Hi Sandee,

With only one day to visit Walt Disney World, I have to recommend you visit the Magic Kingdom.  There just isn't anything better than strolling down Main Street USA towards Cinderella Castle!

Get to the park when it opens and head straight to Fantasyland.  Dumbo is the quintessential attraction for all small children, but the lines can be excruciatingly long as the day progresses - ride it early.  After that, enjoy the rest of Fantasyland: it's a small world, Peter Pan's Flight, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey's PhilharMagic are all "must sees" in my opinion.

Some other attractions that you might enjoy with your little one: Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor, and Jungle Cruise.

Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion are both on my list of favorites.  However, they can sometimes be a little scary for small children - ride with caution, or at least save them until later in the day so your little one doesn't think that every attraction you go on will be scary.

If you can, I recommend dining with characters.  Crystal Palace is located right inside the park and features Winnie the Pooh and friends.  Again, some children aren't thrilled with larger than life characters.  If your child is afraid of the Easter Bunny, then you might want to skip character dining.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
