We are going to Disney for New Years, Is there any special events that go on at the parks that I should know about?

Hi Darci! New Years Eve is a festive time of year at Walt Disney World. The resorts themselves really don't hold special celebrations as they are obligated to consider the well being of all their guests who might not choose to welcome the new year in. But you can find special fun in the parks with extra firework shows.

If you have an adult crowd I suggest visiting Epcot park which is a great place to actually toast the new year with a glass of champagne. You will find entertainment throughout the park that will continue until the midnight hour. The fireworks will be some of the best.

If you have younger children then I suggest you visit the Magic Kingdom park. Again there will be entertainment throughout the day and night until the great fireworks happen at midnight or just before. This park will have a more family friendly feeling.

My third choice would be the Hollywood Studios park which will also have a fireworks celebration heralding in the new year.

Please note that you need to choose your selected park and enter early in the day. This is one of the busiest days of the year and the parks will only hold so many guests. If you are a resort guest you will be told you will have the opportunity to enter a park however, it might not be the park of your choice.  Don't try to park hop on that day either.

Downtown Disney does not hold fireworks and although you might see fragments of some of the park shows in the sky it would not be anything like actually being in a park up close and personal. If you want a more personal option consider booking a fireworks cruise for that night!
