Hello, Disney Moms, I just booked us for a cruise on the Magic, sailing Feb 28, 2016. 2 concerns: advantages of staying night before in Port Canaveral vs. Orlando (flying in from Pacific NW) and will water be warm enough for swimming at Castaway Cay?

Congratulations, Will... you're going on a Disney Cruise!

My family and I travel from NorCal, so I can totally relate to that long trip and the time difference. I would highly suggest arriving at least 1 day prior to your sail date. It allows you to de-stress from the long flight, and it also allows you to get freshened up in the morning. If you stay at a hotel in the Port Canaveral area, you'll be nearby, and you can take a taxi or a shuttle (if available) to get from the hotel to the Disney Cruise terminal on embarkation morning. You'll need to add the cost of getting your family to the hotel from the MCO airport - it will be about a 45 minute to an hour commute from MCO to the Port Canaveral area.

My choice for a pre-cruise stay is at any of the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando. We will usually take an early flight and arrive MCO in the late afternoon. The complimentary Disney Magical Express takes us to our Disney hotel, and we can even enjoy a pre-cruise special dinner treat for the family. The Disney quality is top notch and hard to beat. Disney Cruise ground transfers are available at an additional cost to take you from your Disney hotel to the Port. It also includes baggage handling and it is absolutely the most convenient way of getting you and your family to the port, and then back to the MCO airport on disembarkation day. The cost is $35 per person each way.

The water temps at Castaway Cay around February-March is usually about 70+ degrees. The climate hovers around the high 60's to high 70's. We've been there in early March and we enjoyed the water with the kids. The ocean water feels so much warmer in the Bahamas to me, compared to my home in Hawaii and here in the SF Bay Area. As you get closer to your sail date, you'll want to check the weather just to make sure you pack the right items.

You've got a wonderful voyage to look forward to, Will. Hope this info helps! ~ Dolly
