We are going on a Disney Mexican Riviera cruise in March. We are trying to decide in Puerto Vallarta whether to book an excursion or go to the beach on our own. Do you know how close the boat is to the beach and if it is safe? What would you recommend?

    Hi Erica,

Welcome to the Moms Panel - the Mexican Riviera voyages sound fabulous!  Although I haven't been on this specific cruise, based on your question I would suggest booking your excursion through the cruise line.  There is a wide variety of things to do in Puerto Vallarta, but unless you are familiar with the area it is probably in your best interest to stick with the cruise line port adventure offerings.  By doing so, you will have the security of knowing that the ship is aware of where you are headed - which is helpful in the event of delays due to traffic etc.  The cruise line will assume responsibility for getting you back to the ship on time if you are with a DCL offered excursion.  If you are out on your own and get caught in traffic, lost or otherwise delayed - you risk missing the boat.

If you are really interested on trying it on your own, I would do a general search for cruise visitors in Puerto Vallarta to get first-hand accounts from people that have explored this port on their own.

    I hope this helps!
