We will be on the Disney Magic 7-night Mediterranean Cruise from Barcelona in May 2020. On the debarkation day, the return time to port is 7:00 am. If I book a return flight for 12:00 pm is that cutting it too close? Any advice will be appreciated!

    Hi Melissa!

Ooh so exciting your will be sailing on the Disney Magic 7-night Mediterranean cruise in May! What a coincidence...I will be doing that same itinerary in May, too. Wouldn't that be amazing if we were shipmates? Like you, I am getting well versed in all things Barcelona and ironing out our final details so it will be nothing but smooth sailing. For instance, I just booked all our Port Adventures and cannot wait to explore all these European ports.

Disney Cruise Line suggests that 11:30 a.m. is the earliest recommended flight time from Barcelona International Airport on Debarkation Day. The estimated travel time from the port to the airport is approximately 30 minutes (depending on traffic). So it is feasible to be one of the first off the ship and make a noon flight.

That said, while I think you could make a 12:00 p.m. flight time work, I know I would rather give myself a bigger buffer than that. Just because the Disney Magic is scheduled to arrive at 7 a.m., it may take a while for the ship to be cleared and for Guests to start the disembarking process. The last thing I would want after a blissful, relaxing cruise is to be stressed out about making my flight home.

If you do choose the noon flight, I'd suggest taking a taxi from the Port of Barcelona to Barcelona International Airport.  I think taking a cab would be the fastest option in your scenario. You could also purchase Disney Cruise Line ground transportation and would need to add the transfers in advance by contacting Disney Cruise Line. But my guess is the buses would wait until they were at capacity to head to the airport, which would likely mean a later arrival at the airport for you.

Melissa, share more questions with us as you continue your overseas and at sea planning! Wishing a MAGICal voyage to you and your family!

    Happy Sailing!
