Do Disney Magic Bands have GPS? In case my Grandkids get lost ... is there a feature that helps locate them on the magic band?

    Hi, Ryan!

I'm always happy to welcome a fellow Utahn to planDisney! Thanks for bringing us your question. I know that taking kiddos to Disney parks can feel a little daunting, but don't worry! After years of practice, I have some tips that I think will help you prepare for your visit.

MagicBand+ does not allow users to track a band's physical location, so you won't be able to use it to find a lost child. I'm sorry! But there are some things that we do with our own kids to help if they get separated from us at the parks.

    • Work with children to memorize at least one phone number of a parent or guardian. If a child gets separated from their group this is the fastest way for Cast Members to reach you. You could use a permanent marker to write the number on the inside of a MagicBand+ or purchase an ID bracelet for kids who are too young to memorize the number.
    • When you arrive at the park, point out a Cast Member to the kids in your party. Emphasize their name tag and tell the kids that if they ever get separated from you to look for the nearest person with that name tag and ask for help. Hint: this is what lost parents should do when they're looking for their kids, too!
    • In larger groups we like to have an "exit buddy" for the kids. Everyone is assigned a buddy to make sure they're with us when we exit attractions, leave a restaurant, or use the restrooms. We don't change locations without checking on our buddies, and holding hands is bonus points!
If anyone does get lost, Cast Members will request help from the security team to reunite your party. Lost children are usually taken to the park Baby Care Center, and they are so well taken care of! In Disneyland Park the Baby Care Center is on Main Street, U.S.A. next to First Aid. In Disney California Adventure Park the Baby Care Center is in Pacific Wharf next to Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.

Although MagicBand+ won't let you track your grandchildren, I would still recommend using bands for them! My kids love being able to tap their bands to enter the parks on their own, scan in for Lightning Lanes when we've purchased Disney Genie+ and so much more! Some attractions will make the band light up with special effects, especially the nighttime spectaculars, and my kids love playing Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters.

We often visit the Disneyland Resort with our extended family and I'm so excited for you to experience the parks with your grandkids, Ryan! If you have other questions about managing a large party, making dining reservations, or attractions at the parks that are great for little ones I would be happy to help. Just send me a note here and I'll be back with more pixie dust in no time!

    Keep moving forward!
