Hey there, Beth! Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question. I just love that you will be giving your grandchildren
Disney gift cards to use during your Walt Disney World vacation. Every kid loves spending their own money and this is going to be so fun for them.
Beth, there's
no way to link each individual gift card to a MagicBand for your trip, but I do have some ideas for you. When you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotel that you are staying at, head straight to the front desk. The Cast Member helping you will be able to set up a spending limit for each child on their MagicBand. Make this spending limit for the amount of the gift card you will be giving them. This way they can buy what they want but not overspend. You will need to have your own credit card on file to do this, however, it won't be charged. You can use the gift cards to pay off any balance that you might have during the trip. You'll just need to head back down to the front desk to pay for these charges before you check out so your card won't be charged. Keep in mind that each resort does have a limit you can spend before your credit card is charged. If you reach this limit the funds will be deducted from your account. Be sure to ask the Cast Member working what that limit is so you know to run down to the lobby when you are getting close to use those gift cards. You'll be able to keep track of all of the charges from MagicBand purchases on your
MyDisneyExperience app. Once you are logged in visit the "My Plans" section and select your resort reservation. From there you should see an option to "View Charges" and that's where a breakdown is going to be. When you check out, you'll also be sent a complete receipt via email so you can double-check everything then.
Of course, if this is too much of a hassle you can always just carry around the gift cards for your grandkids. I've used a sharpie to write names on them in the past to know who is who's. Then when my daughter wanted to buy something, I'd just dig it out of my purse and use it right then and there. Depending on the age of your grandkids, they might even be able to keep track of their own gift cards and spending. My daughter is 14 now and she takes her own bag with her money and gift cards and I don't have to worry about it anymore. It's great!
Beth, whatever you decide to do I know your grandkids are going to have so much fun picking out some fun souvenirs to remember their trip with. If you have any other questions before you go, please come back and
ask me.
Have fun!
