Hello Theresa!
Welcome to planDisney! It looks like your trip is just around the river bend, and it sounds as if you are getting packed and ready!
Disney Genie and Genie+ are Disney’s latest and greatest way to experience all the magic of the theme parks in less time!
Disney’s Genie service is complimentary for all Guests. Tell Genie what attractions you’d like to visit, what your dining plans are, and what’d you'd like to experience and it will guide you step-by-step through your day. You can also purchase Genie+ as an add-on, which will allow you to enter the Lightning Lane of many popular attractions, meaning shorter than typical waits.
But unlike a static plan that you might do in advance, Disney’s Genie and Genie+ service is a dynamic, on-demand system that works with actual current wait times, crowd levels, and even the weather to make changes as the day goes on. Because of this, it is something you use on the day of your visit, not something used to plan in advance. There is not a separate Disney Genie App, it is simply the most updated version of the My Disney Experience Mobile App, and since it is a Mobile App, you cannot put it on a desktop computer. The desktop companion would be your My Disney Experience account.
I’m sorry this probably wasn’t the answer you were hoping for. Truly, Disney Genie isn’t much use unless you are physically in the parks. I would recommend you update your My Disney Experience App to the newest version, and you can play around with it a bit before your visit, and familiarize yourself with how things look. And remember, using Disney Genie and Genie+ is completely optional! If being on your mobile device on vacation isn’t your cup of tea, then skip it and enjoy the theme parks without it. Except for the virtual queue for
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot, all other attractions continue to have a standby queue that you can access without a mobile device. Using Genie and Genie+ is not at all required, and you can still have a completely magical trip without it!
I hope this helps to answer your question, Theresa. Wishing you a wonderful visit to the
Walt Disney World Resort!- Kate
