We are going to Disney the first week in June. My daughter is 5 and my son is 8. What character meal(s) would be best for us? Ideally, I would like something they would both enjoy, instead of doing separate meals.

Okay, let’s break down the character meals and find one that would work for both of your kids.

First, we will cross out the princess-themed meals as probably your daughter would enjoy them more than your son.  Next, let’s omit the Winnie the Pooh meals at Crystal Palace and the Hollywood and Vine meals as both have characters that are probably not of great interest to your older child.

    So what’s left?

The Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom -serving dinner family-style with Minnie, Goofy, Pluto
The Garden Grill in Epcot - serving lunch and dinner family-style with Mickey, Pluto, Chip, Dale
Tusker House in Animal Kingdom - serving a breakfast buffet with Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Mickey
Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club - serving a breakfast buffet with Minnie, Goofy, Chip, Dale
Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary - serving breakfast and dinner buffets with Mickey, Goofy, Chip, Dale
‘Ohana at the Polynesian - serving breakfast family-style with Lilo, Stitch, Mickey and Pluto

Of those choices, only the Garden Grill has a lunch time meal. What fits best in to your schedule or menu preferences? Note that Liberty Tree Tavern, Garden Grill and ‘Ohana are family style meals with platters brought to your table. If you have picky eaters there will not be as many choices as a buffet. Characters are subject to change but the above list will help you select one that is appropriate for your family.

My choice would probably be Chef Mickey’s (as Minnie is often here too) or the Cape May Cafe. However, I would recommend that you choose what fits best in to your itinerary as well as your kid’s character and menu preferences.

Have a fabulous meal with your children!
