Disney for the first time. Better to rent a stroller or bring our own? Is stroller similiar to tandem strollers sold at Baby Stores, or will it accompany both my 2 year old and 6 year old...the 6 year old may get tired of walking.

Hi Jessica!  I'm a big fan of bringing my own stroller to the park for a couple of reasons.

    • The strollers in the park are hard molded plastic, for a two year old that might get tired, they are not very comfy.
    • Stroller rentals can get expensive.
    • Strollers can not be taken outside the parks.  This doesn't help at the end of the evening when your child is exhausted and has to walk to the buses and back to the hotel room.

I've always found that inexpensive umbrella strollers work the best for me.  They're lightweight and easy to fold up.  I would definitely recommend that for your two year old.  Your six year old is a bit trickier.   I know when my son was 6, he walked around the parks, whereas when he was 5 we used the stroller.  It can be a tough call.  You know your child best and what he/she is capable of handling.  I will say a worn out 6 year old gets heavy really quickly when you have to carry them back to your hotel room because they're too tired to walk.

If it were me, I would bring two umbrella strollers.  If I found I didn't really need one for my 6 year old after the first day, I would just leave it in the hotel room and maybe bring it to the parks in the evening.

Hope this helps!  Have a magical vacation.

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
