We are going to Disney for our first family disney trip in June 2011, the week of father's day. I want to reserve tickets as a father's day gift for one of the dinner shows. Do you recommend the Backyard BBQ, Hoop Dee Doo Review, or Spirit of Aloha?

    Leann:

Without knowing the ages of your children, it's difficult to just pick one fav out of the bunch, but here's some insight.
    • Hoop Dee Doo Revue: Broadest appeal. The show delighted everyone in my family's group of 19 from age 3 to 63. The ribs and chicken made the night even better. The vaudeville show stays fast-paced and there's no lull time like the luau. Disney wants you there early to take your picture. Give yourself plenty of time to ride the ferry from Magic Kingdom or to park and take the fort's internal buses to Pioneer Hall.
    • Spirit of Aloha: This offers authentic dances from the Pacific, but the program gets a little long in the middle so I don't recommend it if you have small children. Friendly cast members serve up delicious food family-style--I loved the Hawaiian bread. Some think the story is hokey, but otherwise, it would just be a bunch of fit dancers going from one traditional dance to another, so don't think too much and take it all in. FYI: They tell you to get there really early. There's no need as you have assigned seats. Dress for the weather; it's outside.
    • Mickey's Backyard BBQ: If you have little ones, you've got a memory maker on your hands! It's a Character Meal on steroids as Mickey and the gang dance with your kids. There's also a cowboy roper and did I mention all the Mickey ice cream bars you can eat?  You do need to get there early if you want a seat close to the action with its general seating. But if you don't, wait until the fourth song and the dance floor will unclog enough to enjoy.
Beer and wine are included along with gratuity in the price which makes them more appealing so you don't have any hidden charges. I think your husband would enjoy all three, so pick the show based on pace and the age of your children.

Wishing y'all a magical vacation and a memorable Father's Day!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
