Now that Disney is ending Magical Express :( What is the best, easiest, most affordable way to get from the airport to your resort?

    Hello Amanda!

Welcome to planDisney! I have always loved Disney’s Magical Express, and I was surprised to see the announcement this morning that it would be retiring in 2022. With Walt Disney World Resort Guests having so many transportation options available today, more and more are choosing to utilize services that offer transportation where you want, when you want, such as ride-share services. If you have a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel stay planned for a check-in date during 2021, rest assured that Disney’s Magical Express service will still be available.

If you are looking ahead to a visit in 2022 and beyond, I think the best option will vary depending on the size of your party and your vacation needs. You may want to begin by checking out Orlando International Airport’s page on Parking & Transportation. There they have a chart with approximate rates to Disney Resort Hotels via local bus, shuttle vans, taxi, or limousine. Ride-share services such as Uber and Lyft also have rate calculators on their websites to help you make the most affordable determination for you. I do think that most of these options will be just as fast, if not faster to get to your resort.

For a party of two, I would think a ride-share service would be the easiest and most affordable option. For my family of six, I will consider either doing a one-day rental car each direction, or a taxi van. I am also considering a one-day rental to get to my Walt Disney World Resort, so I could make a grocery stop for things like bottled water, sunscreen, and snack items for our room. For the return trip, I think a taxi van would be the most efficient for us. I think the answer will look different for each family, but you should definitely look into all of these options.

With 2022 still being quite a bit away, and with this announcement being so new, I do think there is always the possibility of new services being created by local companies to try to meet this need of the market, and so there may be even more transportation options or companies available as 2022 gets closer. I don’t plan to make a final transportation decision for my spring 2022 visit until at least this summer, so I would advise you to wait and see as well.

I hope this helps get you started with your planning, and I hope you’ll come back to visit us with more questions as 2022 gets closer!
