We are going on a Disney Dream cruise in March 2012. My husband is nervous that he will get sea sick? What do you suggest he can do before we go, so that this does not happen? Should we perhaps get a medication from our doctor to take onboard?

    Hi Kimberley,

I feel your husband's pain...quite literally since I suffer from very bad vertigo myself.  You should have seen me on my first cruise!  It started the moment the ship moved, but I can say that I got my "sea legs" a couple of days (and a lot of motion sickness meds) later.  I'm happy to say that I learned how to prevent it... prevention is the key to a wonderful sailing!  Tell your husband that I'm getting ready for my 5th Disney cruise shortly.

I get a prescription from my doctor for the time released motion sickness patch.  It's a little, round sticker that goes right behind your ear.  Put it on one hour before stepping on the ship because you have to give the patch time to work before you set sail.  It's very convenient too, you don't have to put a new one on every day, just about every three to four days depending on your doctor's instructions.  Trust me, it won't come off until you take it off.   It has worked out wonderfully for me and you'll see a great many Guests wearing them too.

If you don't want to get a prescription, I've also used over the counter medicines to prevent sea sickness.  Remember to follow the instructions on the package and have him take it before he gets on the ship.  I've also heard that PsiBands work well, but I've never tried them.

Remember, there is 24 medical attention available on board if needed, but there could be an extra charge for this.

Tell him that if "Vertigo Marisol" can do it, so can he!  Let me know if you have any other questions.  I'd be happy to help!
