when does disney take down the Christmas lights (mainly magic kingdom )? are there any holiday activities in magic kingdom jan. 2-jan.3 2016? I now christmas is VERY crowded , what about New Years are crowds usually less by Jan 2 & jan 3

Happy Holidays, Debbie! Christmas is one of the most magical times to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. Twinkling lights, festive decor and the spirit of the season keep us coming back year after year.

There's no official word on when the Christmas decorations will come down, but I can share my experience with you. Last year, we visited the Magic Kingdom Park for my birthday, around the second week of January. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Park was still decked out in its holiday finery. In fact, the Christmas decorations remained up all the way through the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, which will take place January 6-11, 2016. While there's no guarantee, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were able to experience a little taste of a Disney Christmas during your visit.

As for the holiday crowds, that post-New Year's weekend may still be fairly busy. I did notice that the blockout dates for some Florida Resident Annual Passes will end on January 2, so there may be an influx of locals hoping to catch some of the Christmas spirit, too. You might consider checking one of the online crowd calendars like easywdw.com to get a sense of what you might expect.

You'll find more information on Walt Disney World holiday events on the Disney website. I hope this helps you plan a jolly holiday, Debbie. Please come visit us again if you have any more questions.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
