Going to Disney in Decemebr for the first time with a 5 and 6 year old. We are deciding between the Contemporary and the Polynesian. I would like to be close to Magic Kingdom. Can you tell me the diffenences between the 2 that are not on the web.

    Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  I have a 5 and 6 year old as well (along with an 8 year old too), and having stayed at both of these resorts.  Personally, I prefer the Polynesian.

My biggest draw to the Contemporary is the ease of transportation to the Magic Kingdom.  In the morning we take a short five minute walk to the front gate - and at the end of the long day we can hop on the Monorail and the Contemporary is the first stop.  What I didn't like about it was the noise.  The design of the building is quite unique, but it also provides echo from the common areas of the building.  The rooms were clean and comfortable, but contemporary decor isn't quite my style.

The Polynesian on the other hand, offers rooms that just immerse me in the vacation feeling.  The laid back island feel to this resort forces your mind into vacation mode.  I especially like the ability to walk to the transportation and ticket center.  This is very handy when going to get to Epcot, and you can take the express Monorail (or the ferry) to the Magic Kingdom.  I found the buildings to be very quiet and relaxing, which made it perfect for getting little ones to sleep.

To help you in your decision, I suggest that you visit www.allearsnet.com and browse to their "accommodations" section.  They have fantastic photos of every Walt Disney World resort, which I find very helpful when choosing a resort.

I hope this was helpful, good luck with your decision!
