Hi there, Kristen!
It's always a delight to help a fellow Mouseketeer
sea-ze the day by logging magical miles on
Castaway Cay. I'm so glad you stopped by planDisney with your question!
Although the Castaway Cay 5K is currently operating as more of a 'fun run' with no official start time, per
Disney Cruise Line policy, only those ages 10 and older are able to
go the distance on Castaway Cay. I'm sure this isn't what you were hoping to hear, but please know that just because you can't run as a family doesn't mean that you have to forego the experience. I love that you're teaching your children the importance of healthy movement, so you and your husband might consider running one at a time. You could even make it a 5K relay. I just know that your little ones would love cheering you on!
If you do decide to take part in the 5K, I'd love to share some information that I think you might find helpful. You'll be able to start the race at your leisure, and once you've crossed the finish line, you'll simply stop by the bike rental hut to collect your medals (subject to availability). The clearly marked 5K course starts beside the bicycle rental hut and follows a scenic course through the island past an observation tower (that I encourage you to check out if you have a few extra steps in you) before ending back where it began. You'll find that most runners (and walkers) prefer to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures and start their
Casta-day with the 5K. There is an unmanned water station on the course, but I suggest bringing your own bottle as it can get quite sunny along parts of the course. Once you finish, I think you'll love cooling down with a celebratory frozen beverage from Olaf's Summertime Freeze!
I hope this is helpful and that you'll run back over to planDisney with any other questions that arise about your upcoming sailing aboard
Disney Cruise Line.
Wishing you miles and smiles,
Lizzie
