Hi Moms! I will be going on my 1st disney cruise at the end of Oct on the Fantasy. I am travelling with a 1yr old and a 6yr old. Do I need passports for them? I have seen different opinions on this topic. Will they have issues boarding after excursions?

    Hello Nicole!

Thanks for writing.  How exciting that your first Disney Cruise is only a few months away!  I remember counting down to my first cruise when my boys were younger.  We made a "paper chain" and ripped the days off as the cruise approached.  They got so excited as the chain got shorter and shorter!

In preparation for your sailing I recommend that you visit the Disney Cruise Line site to review the important cruise documents you will need.  For what are known as "closed-loop" sailings that begin and end in the same United States port, passports are highly recommended, but not mandatory. In the unlikely event of an emergency, by having a United States passport, you could fly home with no concern.  If you chose not to obtain passports, I would recommend stopping by the Passport and Travel Documentation site to learn about other acceptable forms of identification, including an original or copy of a state-issued birth certificate.

Once I sailed on my first Disney Cruise Line voyage with my boys, I was hooked and quickly reserved a sailing on a European voyage, so was glad I had already secured passports for all of us.

    I hope you have a Fantasy-filled voyage!
