Going on our 1st Disney cruise on the Dream in April 2011. What is it like when you get to Castaway Cay? Is there a mad rush to get to the beach? Does everyone leave at the same time? Is the family beach more crowded at certain times of the day? Thanks

    Hi Jennifer,

What is it like when you get to Castaway Cay?  In a word - paradise.  This is always the highlight of our Disney Cruise vacations, as I love the private island setting that immerses you in the Caribbean beauty - with the service, cleanliness, attention to detail and fun we expect from Disney.

You can expect that there will be a line of guests waiting to disembark as soon as possible.  Due to the size of the island and the distance you need to travel (by walking or by tram) to reach the beach - the "mad rush" feels short lived.  You will find that it appears very crowded when you first arrive, simply because the majority of guests set up camp as soon at the first available stretch of beach.  I suggest continuing on down the family beach, because the further you go the less crowded it will be.  There are restrooms at the far end, as well as a bar with servers that deliver your drinks right to your beach chair.  So ideally you aren't missing anything by but the crowds by moving to the end of the family beach.

This beach will be most crowded in the late morning and early afternoon, so we tend to try to enjoy the water early - and spend the busier times exploring the island.

    Have a great time!
