Hi, Antriece!
My buddies at Disney Cruise Line are probably growing weary of all my questions about this particular itinerary since my family and I will be sailing on the Disney Wonder to Alaska next month, too! My friend, Anne, says that there is a Pirate Deck Party, and even though the original plan was to host it indoors, the weather has been fantastic. Therefore, for the inaugural voyage, they were dancing and grooving outside on Deck 9 with the midnight meal indoors at the Beach Blanket Buffet.
Here are more tips she's been passing along to me:
- The land of the "midnight sun" takes some getting used to, but it's not as drastic as one might think. It started getting dark around 9 p.m. for her cruise. She said I may have more light since I'm sailing close to summer solstice. Your days will be shorter in August.
- Dress in layers and carry a backpack. You'll be peeling off those outer ones during the day and appreciating them in the morning and evening.
- Book plenty of shore excursions. Don't miss the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to hike a glacier, experience dog mushing or catch and eat fresh seafood.
There are formal and semi-formal nights on board, but if you arrive late from a shore excursion and don't want to participate, the Beach Blanket Buffet has a great sit-down meal in a casual atmosphere. Remember to bring extra supplies for cameras -- Anne says the scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and you'll be filling up memory cards and going through batteries like you've never seen.
I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
Andi
