Ciao, Michelle! Welcome to planDisney!
What a fantastic summer you have planned aboard the
Disney Dream sailing the Mediterranean. I was on a similar itinerary last summer. Disney Cruise Line knows how to plan the best
Port Adventures! I can’t wait for you to experience the beauty and history at each port of call. Whether you’re looking for a guided tour or you wish to explore at your own pace, there is something for everyone.
You can book a tour on select itineraries that includes airport transfers on debarkation day. However, at this time, it doesn’t appear that a debarkation tour is offered in Civitavecchia or Rome. I recommend checking at the Port Adventures Deck onboard to see if any excursions have been added. Excursions and activities are subject to change.
If you haven’t purchased airfare yet, you could arrive a few days early to acclimate to the time change and explore the city.
Disney Cruise Line can arrange airfare, hotel accommodations, and ground transfers for your pre-arrival stay. There are many things you can see in Rome without taking a tour. Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum were two of my son’s favorites. Have a coin handy to toss in the fountain to ensure you’ll be back. If you have your sights set on the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, or the Sistine Chapel, make sure you purchase tickets beforehand. Guests, including children, wishing to enter St. Peter’s Basilica must keep their shoulders and knees covered. You can wear shorts that reach below the knee and tank tops, as long as you bring a sweater or scarf to wrap around your shoulders. I ended up having my son wear zip-off pants for our church visits. They were lightweight, covered his knees, and kept him cool in the hot Mediterranean sun.
Michelle, I’m ready to pack my bags and join you in Europe! Your family is going to have such a wonderful time making treasured memories. I have one more recommendation from our Italian server on the Disney Magic. He shared that gelato is plentiful in Rome, but if you’re looking for the best, you must try Fassi. They have been in the gelato business for over 140 years! Please cruise our way again if you have further questions. We are always happy to help!
SEAS the adventure,
