Hi Kasie!
Wow -your question has perfect timing! Until recently, the majority of table service restaurants did not charge a penalty for guests that missed reservations. However, due to many people overbooking and then not showing up, some folks were not able to make reservations for their favorite meals. Sooo understandably, some of the most popular destinations will now charge a penalty if you do not cancel within the designated time period.
Generally speaking, most character meals and many other sit down restaurants now will require a Credit Card number to guarantee the reservation. It will not be charged unless you fail to cancel within 24 hours, then a $10 PER PERSON fee will be charged. Also, some meals, such as dining in Cinderella's Royal Table, will require payment in full if you are not on the Dining Plan. The Cast Member that you speak with at 1-407-WDW-DINE will be able to let you know which restaurants this applies to. It can also be found online at
www.disneyworld.com/dining. This should make dining reservation easier for everyone!
To assist in making the process of cancelling even easier, Disney has set up a new phone number strictly for restaurant cancellations. Simply call 1-407-WDW-CNCL at LEAST 24 hours ahead of your "ressie" to cancel. You may also take care of cancellations at
www.disneyworld.com/dining or by visiting any Guest Relations desk. Have an awesome vacation and keep those questions coming!
Much pixie dust,
Jackie S.
