Hi. Is a dinner show like Mickey's BBQ a good place to celebrate my son's 5th birthday (cake, birthday son) or would it be better to do it at a character dinner like Chef Mickey's? We're going to both but need to decide on which day to serve the cake.

Hey Julie! I would definitely choose Chef Mickey for a birthday celebration over Mickey's Backyard Barbecue. The barbecue is an outdoor event and you will be sitting at long tables with other guests. It is also a buffet but a bit more crowded when getting your food. Once dinner is over there will be entertainment from a live band to a roping artist and that is all followed by dancing with the characters. Although this is a fun dining event it really doesn't offer a good opportunity for a cake to be shared and celebrated by the family.  Chef Mickey is crowded but you will have your own table where you can enjoy a cake and sing Happy Birthday for your son.  Of course if they ask if anyone is celebrating at either location be sure and include your son in the festivities!
