How does the dining plan work with split stays? Do I have to make two different reservations and if so, is there a way to use dining credits associated with the first stay during the second stay if you have credits left after checking out of hotel #1?

Hi, Paula!  Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

With so many amazing Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, all offering the same great guest benefits, it can be hard to select just one to call your home away from home.  Staying at two different resort hotels during one vacation is a great way to have your Mickey-shaped cake and eat it too!  A split stay allows you to experience two different properties, and the Cast Members at your resort hotels make your moving day a breeze.  On the day that you are checking out of your first resort hotel, simply leave your luggage with bell services and let them know that you are transferring to another Walt Disney World Resort Hotel.  Your bags will automagically arrive at your second resort hotel later that day.

When you book your split stay, you will have two separate resort hotel reservations.  As such, if you choose to purchase a Disney Dining Plan, you will also have two separate dining plans.  If you complete the online check-in process prior to your arrival day, your dining credits for your first resort hotel stay should be ready for you to use as soon as you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort.  Any entitlements from that first dining plan will expire at midnight on the day that you check out, and your dining credits for the Disney Dining Plan associated with your second resort hotel stay will be available for you to use starting on your moving day.

You can use your My Disney Experience mobile app to keep track of your Disney Dining Plan credits.  If you have any dining credits left over at the end of either of your resort hotel stays, I recommend using them to purchase snack items to take home with you.  Mickey-shaped Rice Krispie treats travel quite well!

Paula, if you are hoping to experience any table-service meals during your vacation, be sure to make your dining reservations as soon as possible.  Dining reservations can be made as early as 180 days in advance.  If you would be interested in a fun character dining experience with delicious food, I highly recommend Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White.  Although prices are always subject to change, this meal is currently offered for only one Disney Dining Plan table-service entitlement per person.  This is an extraordinary value!
