If the dining plan is offered for free again this year, would it be cheaper to stay at a value resort and upgrade to the dining plan instead of the quick service dining plan or to stay at a moderate resort with the dining plan?

Hi Kristin!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  I think your way of thinking is very clever!  I have to think it would be cheaper to upgrade your dining plan over upgrading your resort - however, this may depend on how many people are in your room.  Currently, the cost for upgrading from the Quick Service Dining Plan to the Regular Dining Plan is $18.01 per adult, per night and $2.84 per child, per night during non peak season.  During peak season it is $19.36 per adult, per night and $3.84 per child, per night.

So...determine the difference in cost per night between your room at the Value Resort and the Moderate Resort, and then add up the difference in cost of the dining plans, and you will be able to see which would be more advantageous.

If history repeats itself, they usually announce a late summer, early fall free dining promotion sometime in early April.  Hopefully, we'll all get lucky with that again this year, but there are no guarantees, so we'll just have to wait and see.  Mousesavers.com is a favourite website of mine for keeping up to date on all the latest discounts and offers at Walt Disney World, so I recommend keeping an eye out there.

Please let me know Kristin, if I can be of any further assistance to you.  I would be happy to help.  Have a magical day!
