What dining experiences would you recommend for a boy? He will be 13 and his first time going to Disney World. Any special shows that he would like?

    Mary:

I asked my 14-year-old his favorite restaurants and several jump to the top:
    • Ohana: I don't know if it is the all-you-can-eat shrimp and beef that makes it his always-asked-for-favorite or the memories of watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the restaurant. Either way, I don't know many kids who will turn their nose up to the grilled fare here.
    • Sci Fi Dine-In Restaurant: I feel some of the movies played are more appropriate for the teenage set than youngsters, so I would agree this restaurant is well received not only for the atmosphere but the menu which offers burgers and shakes.
    • Coral Reef: Eating in the same room with a fish tank that takes up an entire wall of the restaurant is memorable and cool. Again, the menu sports memorable dishes like steak and lobster manicotti that teenage palates enjoy.
Indian Jones Spectacular along with Lights, Motor, Action at Hollywood Studios offers more than what you'll find at Magic Kingdom or at the dinner shows to appeal to his age. However, my son still laughs at Hoop Dee Doo Revue. I've found that my sons are more relaxed and almost seem to have permission to enjoy themselves when they are at Disney, so as long you're not standing in line for Playhouse Disney, I think you'll be good. You may want to share the attraction link under THINGS TO DO at www.disneyworld.com with your son and get his input. Giving him the ability to help make plans will guarantee he's more bought in for enjoyment on the trip.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
