When dining at Disney World I know I can pay with Disney gift cards but does it have to be the whole amount? Or can I use a gift card for partial payment and use my credit card for the rest? Thanks.

Hi Michelle and welcome to planDisney!

Disney gift cards are such a great way to pay for a Walt Disney World vacation.  I always get Disney Gift Cards for presents since everyone who knows me knows I'll be headed to Walt Disney World sometime soon.

Disney gift cards are widely accepted all over Walt Disney World, including gift shops, restaurants and snack carts.  For Disney dining, you can split the payment however you would like, so you can certainly use a gift card for partial payment and a credit card for the remaining balance.  What I like to do if I am staying at a Disney Resort hotel is charge everything to my room account and then pay the balance off at the front desk using my gift cards and other forms of payment, if needed.  It is easier for me to just tap my wrist to pay with my MagicBand than to dig out my gift  card or credit card each time.

You can also use your Disney gift cards for Mobile Food Ordering or Merchandise Mobile Checkout through the My Disney Experience mobile app.  Mobile ordering for food and drinks is so easy through the app and you can just plug in your gift card number for payment.  Just last night, my family and I were in Creations Shop in EPCOT at closing time, so it was really busy in the store.  My daughter wanted to purchase a princess doll, so I used the easy Merchandise Mobile Checkout option on the app, entered my gift card number, and we were ready to go!

I suggest registering your gift cards on the Disney gift card website.  If you misplace them, you can easily transfer the lost card to a new card.  Also, if you have multiple gift cards, you can combine them up to $1000 on any one card.  Combining them makes it easier so you don't have to carry multiple cards with you.

Please stop back by if you have any additional vacation planning questions.

    Have a magical day!
