Welcome, Nicole!
Thanks for stopping by planDisney with this great question about the distinction between the different categories of accommodations around the Walt Disney World Resort. Sometimes, the difference is simply nomenclature relating to the type of partnership that Disney has with other brands nearby, and other times it’s an indication of proximity or benefits. I’m happy to outline the differences for you.
On the Walt Disney World website, if you hover over the top menu bar title “Places to Stay” you’ll see links for Disney Resorts Collection hotels, Other Select Deluxe Resort Hotels, and More Great Accommodations. Within More Great Accommodations, you can explore the many styles and brands of hotels and resorts in the surrounding area of the Walt Disney World Resort. The term “Good Neighbor” appears in this Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) and then another website opens to browse hotels for that exact category. Please note that the Disneyland Resort in California uses the term “Good Neighbor” exclusively for all partner hotels near the Disneyland Resort which are listed on their website. The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has many different options, so it uses a variety of terms to classify the range of accommodations available.
The benefits to staying on property continue to evolve, so if you’re seeking confirmation on a magical benefit such as Early Theme Park Entry, please see the details and specifications of those exact hotels on the Walt Disney World Website:
Good Neighbor Hotels and other wonderful accommodations in the nearby area listed on the Walt Disney World website have received Disney’s stamp of quality approval, Nicole. You can have peace of mind knowing that they meet high quality, service, and safety standards that Guests of the Walt Disney World Resort have come to expect while meeting a variety of family size, style, and price needs. These hotels may also offer transportation to the theme parks, a Disney-themed gift shop inside their hotel, and the ability to purchase theme park tickets from their hotel.
My family loves to stay at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel for our longer vacations. When I’ve been in town for a work trip or we’re in the Orlando area otherwise we have enjoyed several stays in the Disney Springs area at great hotels, so I would proudly recommend any of those listed that meet your family's needs, accommodation size, and budget for a particular trip.
Please let us know if you have any other questions as you finalize your special vacation – we'd love to help!
See you real soon,
Amy
