What are the different types of mobility aides the park has available for rental (he is too young to navigate with an full size wheelchair)? My son is 7 and has a rare bone disease that causes major fatigue and bone pain with too much physical activity.

It’s a small world after all, Julia, and I’m so glad you found your way to planDisney! I really appreciate you bringing your question here, and I'm more than happy to help make your upcoming vacation to the Happiest Place on Earth as comfortable as possible for you and your son!

The Disneyland Resort offers wheelchair and electronic convenience vehicle (ECV) rentals on a daily basis. These rentals can be found just outside the Main Entrance of Disneyland Park, adjacent to the Kennel. However, since you mentioned your son is too young to navigate a full-size wheelchair, I recommend checking out ScooterBug, a local private mobility rental company, which is also a Disney Featured Provider. ScooterBug provides ECV and wheelchair rentals, including length-of-stay rentals, that can be delivered directly to the Disneyland Resort hotels. I went ahead and checked ScooterBug's website, and I’m happy to report that they offer several different types of wheelchairs, including a Pediatric Wheelchair that’s designed especially for children. I recommend checking out their website to review the options and see which one may work best for your son. You can pre-order a wheelchair ahead of time by calling (800) 726-8284 or booking it on their website.

Upon arrival in January, I recommend stopping by Guest Relations at either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park. You can find Guest Relations in City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park, or in Chamber of Commerce on Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure Park. You’ll have the chance to speak with a Cast Member about your son’s specific needs, and they’ll be able to help you create a plan just for him. One option is Disability Access Service (DAS), which would allow your family to receive a return time for certain attractions.

I also recommend downloading the Disneyland app and adding Disney MaxPass to your tickets, which can be used in conjunction with DAS. This will help your family maximize the time you have in the parks, by scheduling your Disney FASTPASS selections directly from your mobile device! MaxPass also includes Disney PhotoPass, which will help you and your family capture all the magical memories you create during this trip.

I hope this information helps your son enjoy a comfortable, magical experience at the Disneyland Resort, Julia! Please stop by with any additional planning questions you may have... we love making magic happen!
