Hi Irene,
Thank you for visiting planDisney with your Walt Disney World planning question. We on the panel are happy to help you consider which
Disney Resort Hotel is right for your stay at Walt Disney World.
Both
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter and
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside are lovely resorts. Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter is the smaller of the two resorts, and its theme revolves around the French Quarter of New Orleans. Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside is themed to more rural Louisiana. The resorts are located right next to each other; in fact, you can walk from one to the other to explore the resort in which you are not staying. It is a lovely and quick walk along the Sassagoula River to get between the two resorts. Both of these resorts fall into the category of a
Moderate Resort Hotel at Walt Disney World, so they will be similar in price and amenities.
There are a few differences in the two resorts that might make you choose one over the other. Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside is a
pet-friendly hotel, so if you have a dog who is traveling with you, this would be a good choice. Additionally, Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside includes Royal Guest Rooms, so if anyone in your family would enjoy a room designed around a princess, this would be a great option!
If I was choosing between these two Disney Resort Hotels, I would choose Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter. I love the feeling of a small resort that I can stroll around. I must admit that my choice is largely about theme - I love how the buildings at this resort are arranged along pathways made to resemble streets in the French Quarter. I also enjoy finishing my Walt Disney World day at
Scat Cat's Club - a lounge with delicious New Orleans-inspired cocktails and food, including sazeracs and beignets! This lounge is located at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, and while you could visit it from Disney Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, I do enjoy a shorter walk back to my room at the end of an evening!
I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Irene. No matter which Disney Resort Hotel you choose, there will be so much to enjoy. Enjoy planning your magical vacation, and please do let us know if you have any further questions!
