What is the difference between a preferred room and a standard room at the WDW Resorts?

    Hi, there!

Welcome to planDisney, Coleen. We're just thrilled you stopped by, and even more thrilled to hear you're beginning to plan a Walt Disney World Resort vacation!

There are so many unique hotels to choose from in the Disney Resorts Collection, that it certainly makes it difficult to decide where to stay. Once you select one, then you need to decide on a room category! I'm happy to help you sort those categories out. Preferred rooms are generally closer to the Resort hotel's main building, which houses the lobby and at least one dining location, and the feature pool. Sometimes preferred rooms are also closer to transportation. Standard rooms are just a bit farther away from those amenities. My family usually travels on a tight budget, so we nearly always opt for a standard room over a preferred room. Closer proximity isn't necessarily worth the difference in cost to us! In all our stays in standard rooms, we've never felt like we were inconvenienced in having to walk a bit to get to where we need to go.

Did you know that you can compare vacation packages side by side on the Walt Disney World Resort website? This handy comparison tool always helps me to decide on a Disney Resort hotel. Once you add one offer to your online cart, you'll see an option pop up on the checkout page to add up to two additional offers so that you can compare all your offers on one screen!

I hope this was helpful, Coleen. Please visit us again soon with any new questions you may have about your Walt Disney World Resort vacation! We'd love to help you plan a magical stay.
