What is the difference between the Magic band 1 and 2? How do I know which one I am getting so I can buy charms for them?

Hello Tammy, and thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I am so excited to hear that you are planning to visit the Walt Disney World Resort next year. I absolutely love MagicBands. Guests staying at select Disney Resort Hotels receive complimentary MagicBands that allow them to unlock the door to their hotel room. Your MagicBand is linked to the information in your My Disney Experience account. You can access your theme park tickets, redeem FastPass+ selections and add pictures taken by Disney’s PhotoPass Photographers to your Memory Maker account. You can even charge food and merchandise back to your resort hotel room account.

When Magicbands were introduced, they had the original design, or what you refer to as MagicBand 1. It had a slender design with a small Mickey icon in the center. The single-use batteries in a MagicBand only last about 2 years. The original MagicBands are no longer made or sold at the Walt Disney World Resort. In the fall of 2016, MagicBand 2 made its debut and this is currently the only MagicBand available. This type of MagicBand has a removable center that can be used with the MagicKeeper product. You can purchase MagicBands online or from the Shop Disney Parks Mobile app. You can also purchase limited release and limited edition MagicBands only while visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. I hope that answers your question. If you need any more advice before you arrive, please come back and visit us again.

    See ya real soon,
