Hi Diane: We are planning to visit WDW 12/9 thru12/12 after a cruise. This is our first time for our family of 8 (kids are young adults). We have a reservation off property, however questioning if it would save time to stay at a Disney resort and which one?

    Hi Tracy,

It sounds like you have a great vacation planned!  I'll be honest, staying on property is more expensive than booking a reservation off property, but I think it's completely worth the cost.  Walt Disney World is as big as some cities.  It's nice to be surrounded by the magic all day every day; you really do feel like you've left the outside world behind.

The most convenient options, of course, are the deluxe resorts.  For your family, a resort on the Boardwalk would be the best option.  It puts you in walking distance to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  Plus, as a resort guest you can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours, periods of time in the morning and/or evening where select parks are open to resort guests only.

My favorite resort is Beach Club.  The pool area is great, and you can't beat the location.  If a deluxe resort is not quite in your budget (with a family of 8 you'll either have to get 2 rooms or a 2 bedroom villa), you might consider going with a value resort.  The new Art of Animation Resort is gorgeous, although I don't know if it will save you much time.  As young adults you probably won't need to return to your resort for a nap in the middle of the day, so staying off property may be a good option for you.  It really comes down to what your budget will allow.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
