Hi Diane! I'm going to WDW in August and I read that you are too. Do you have any tips on beating the August heat?

Hi Cheryl - thanks for your question!  Yes, I will be vacationing at Disney this August and I believe Tanya and Joanne will also be down there during the month.  If you see any of us, please stop us and say hello!  :)

I've been to Disney several times during August and it is definitely hot and humid.  But it's also a nice time to visit as crowds tend to be lower mid to late August due to school starting up again (oh, and it's hurricane season!).

To beat the heat, we tend to start our day as early as possible.  We plan on being at the parks when they open and if there are morning extra magic hours, we take advantage of those as well.  By starting your day early, you can get quite a bit accomplished while others are sleeping in.  We plan on taking our lunch break around noon when the heat is the hottest.  This will involve finding a nice air conditioned place to eat and/or heading back to the resort for a swim - or even rent some sea raycers.  After we've finished our break and have freshened up a bit, we head over to our dinner dining location.  We tend to eat early (around 5ish) as that is the time you are almost guaranteed a pop-up thunderstorm.  They usually pass quickly so by the time we have finished eating, we are ready to go back into the parks and play.

Three things you may want to consider carrying with you at all times - a water bottle, a misting fan and your ponchos.  You'll definitely want to make sure you and your family stay hydrated and if you are ever in need of ice water, any quick service location will provide that to you free of charge.

I hope this helps - have a fabulous vacation!  Diane  :)
