Hi Joan!
My niece has juvenile diabetes and also needs to carry insulin with her. I think you will find that vacationing in Walt Disney World is going to be the most caring and accommodating vacation that you could have. If you ever have a question or dilemma, just ask a Cast Member for assistance. They really do want to make your vacation special.
I would suggest two options for testing your blood sugars and injecting insulin in private. The first suggestion is doing this at the
First Aid stations in Walt Disney World. This link shows you where they are located in each park. There are private rooms, sharps containers, and the ability to store your insulin at the First Aid stations.
Another option is to use the companion restrooms, which are located throughout the parks, for privacy when injecting your insulin. If you do choose to carry your insulin with you, please consider a medication cooling bag like a Frio pouch. Florida temperatures can be quite warm even in the wintertime.
And finally, my niece's parents recommend for all diabetics to pack double the amount of lancets, syringes, and insulin than what you would normally use. They also recommend testing your blood sugar more often since heat and exercise can affect their levels. It was their experience that my niece needed to consume food more often while in Walt Disney World due to the increased activity, which thrilled her greatly.
I hope this information helps you in planning your vacation. Please visit the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any further vacation planning questions!
Blessings,
