Going on the Destiny w/my bestie (her 60th BD!). This is both of our’s 1st time cruise! She gets motion sickness. I’ve jumped back/forth between Mid deck 6(c) and Mid deck 8(b). Any tips/suggestions? Thank you !

Wow, Shannon, what a way to celebrate your bestie! As someone who is turning 50 this summer, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a milestone birthday than with my best friend on Disney’s newest ship. Kudos to you both for cruising for the first time (& to you for thinking to ask planDisney this question!).

As a general rule, your best bet to avoid motion sickness is to opt for a lower deck and head midship. I would also recommend choosing a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah for several reasons.

First of all, focusing on the horizon can help you re-establish your sense of equilibrium. Second of all, being able to step out onto your own private verandah to breathe the fresh sea air always makes me feel better. Finally, being able to order a room service breakfast for free and enjoy it with a cup of tea during sunrise is one of my favorite things to do on a Disney Cruise.

Should you or your friend have need, you can always visit the Health Center onboard. You’ll also find tablets to combat motion sickness there or at Guest Services. And I find a ginger ale at dinner can help calm the tummy, too.

Speaking of dining, no one celebrates special occasions quite like Disney does. Make sure to let your Lead Server know about your bestie’s birthday on your first night at your rotational dining restaurant. To create even more magic for this trip, visit “My Reservations”, select “Special Requests”, and submit a Special Request form at least 3 weeks before sailing. And finally, don’t forget to stop by Guest Services to get a birthday button, just like you would at Disney Parks.

If I could offer you one more tip: download the free Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before embarkation day as well. Not only will it let you communicate for free with your friend, along with any other new friends you make onboard, you’ll also have all the activity schedules in the palm of your hand. I also keep an eye on it for any last-minute spa specials that may pop up!

I know you’re going to have a fabulous time together. If you think of any further questions before setting sail, don’t hesitate to head back to us here at planDisney!

    Bon voyage,
    Sami
