Taylor from MI Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

How do I deflate a balloon for travel? The previous post on this is inaccurate. I took my balloon to the Disney store at the airport. They looked terrified at my request then used a metal straw-which completely destroyed it.

Hey there Taylor, and welcome to planDisney!

When I saw your question about deflating balloons, I remembered an answer in the past about getting this done before your flight - and since we were flying out of Orlando International Airport (MCO) on the way to see family over the holidays, I knew I had to make it a mission to find out what the current situation was for myself!

    • I've observed quite a few folks sharing videos online of their experience having their balloons deflated at the Magic of Disney store at Orlando International Airport - along with thousands of others based on the number of views. Now as of the time of writing, the first Cast Member I spoke with there was able to locate someone who was able to deflate balloons purchased at the theme parks and explained that there's actually more than one location at the airport and that unfortunately there is no guarantee that every Cast Member at the airport locations will be able to do so. (In my personal opinion, if that Cast Member seemed wary of attempting to do this themselves, they really should have referred you to a leader or another location that would've been better equipped to assist.)
While I know this doesn't quite rectify the disappointment of a burst balloon, it does seem like many fellow guests are still willing to take this risk to at least bring the remnants of this fleeting, floating memory home to keep somewhere - even if they're unable to have them inflated again. It's important to note that policies and offerings may always be subject to change without prior notice, and it may ultimately be up to the Cast Members and their leadership as to whether they'll continue to be able to do this for guests - but your experience will definitely make me reconsider handing anything fragile to someone terrified to handle it the next time!

Here's to the memory of our beloved balloons that we've lost along the way, and the joy they brought for the time they were with us!
