We are deciding between POFQ and WL for our upcoming May trip. It will be the first visit for my sons (2 1/2 and 5 years old). If there are proximity advanatages to WL I could justify the additional spend to accommodate nap time. Can you recommend?

    Hi Megan!

Port Orleans French Quarters is a Disney Moderate Resort while the Wilderness Lodge is a Disney Deluxe Resort.  If your budget affords it, I would definitely recommend staying at the Wilderness Lodge.  However, I'm biased.  Without a doubt, the Wilderness Lodge is my absolute favorite resort at Walt Disney World. The theming is amazing!  I actually feel like I have left Walt Disney World and Florida and have been magically transported to the Pacific Northwest.  It features both natural and Native American elements. The main building is modeled after Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The resort even includes a working geyser and hot springs down by the pool area.

With young children, you will probably be spending a lot of your time in the Magic Kingdom.  The Wilderness Lodge is very close to the Magic Kingdom and is connected to it via boat transportation.  While it is not on the monorail line, it is still easy to get to because the boats run very often.  This makes it easy to take your children back to your room for a nap.  Also, taking a boat ride to the Magic Kingdom, especially at night, is a magical experience.

Other pros include having two table service restaurants, a food court, and boat transportation to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds. My family especially enjoys dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.  Having boat transportation to Fort Wilderness makes it easier to attend the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review and enjoy dinner there at Trail's End Buffet.

My family really enjoys the Wilderness Lodge. My two sons love the pool and the special activities held at the lodge for kids; one of their all time favorite activity at any resort at Walt Disney World is the "duck race" that takes place at the pool area.

    Have a magical vacation!
