I have decided last minute to take my 2.5 year old daughter to DW this Summer. We have decided to come June 19th-26th, 2010. I was originally thinking of staying at the AKL, but now I can decided between AKL and the Contemporary. Please help me!

Hi, Melissa! The difference between The Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge just may be as easy as trying to figure out which is better -- wonderful or fabulous! The Contemporary is in a word -- convenient. Yes, it's a great resort complete with wonderful dining and first-class accommodations, but when you boil it all down, it's the only resort on property that allows you to walk to the Magic Kingdom. Nothing can come close to being able to walk out of the resort and head straight there.  (You don't have to wait for transportation or endure stops along the way.)  In addition, it's the first monorail stop on the way back when you (and your toddler) are the most tired. The pool is probably the least imaginative, but the views, the shopping and watching the monorail go through makes up for the lack of "wow" factor there. If you do stay at The Contemporary, consider a MK view in a tower room and definitely make an Advanced Dining Reservation for Chef Mickey's for your little princess.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a jewel in its own right. If you do not end up staying there, you may decide to make an ADR for Boma. (Breakfast and dinner are fantastic!) Additionally, the lobby is breathtaking and is one to be savored -- not simply walked through on your way to your room. On a recent stay, my children were enamored with the animals that roamed outside our villa. Instead of waking up each morning and turning on the TV, they threw back the curtains, open the doors and said "Good Morning!" to the many giraffes, zebras, gazelles and other animals having breakfast beneath us. The transportation is only by bus...which is not our favorite, and the commute to the MK is the longest. However, Animal Kingdom Lodge -- because of its theme, dining, pools, decor and animals -- is a favorite of our family.

I hope this helps you make a decision, but you certainly can't go wrong with either resort. You are going to have a blast! Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
