Just decided to book a trip for this Nov with our 4 and 6 year old. Both have been already. Character dining reservations are hard since we are within the 180 window. Any advice on less popular, but fun restaurants or experiences for this trip?

    Mary Margaret:

I would be remiss if I didn't let you know that all hope isn't lost when it comes to one of those coveted character meals. Over the years, I've learned that persistence pays off. Keep trying back for reservations on the Disney website. In the meantime, if the menu calls for fun, consider:

    • Biergarten: Capacity at this Epcot restaurant is large, so reservations are easier to come by. Its buffet offers lots from which to choose for picky eaters while the entertaining musical show encourages youngsters to join in on such favorites as the Chicken Dance.
    • Cosmic Ray's: If you must settle for counter-service at the Magic Kingdom, make sure and sit near Sonny Eclipse. The show reminds me of the animatronics of Chuck E. Cheese, but entertaining for the younger set.
    • Tucked in the back of Disney's Hollywood Studios is Toy Story Pizza Planet. The counter-service food is predictable but you were looking for a fun experience... Kids love playing arcade games, just like swimming in the hotel pool.
    • Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom tends to get overlooked even though it sits at the entrance. If you can't get a seat here, though, there's another one at Downtown Disney along with its pre-historic counterpart T-Rex.

Dining can create special memories. Even if you find that you're not in your favorite restaurant, a special dessert, drink with glowing ice cubes or souvenir glass can make a meal stand out for your kids.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
