Dec. 23-28, 4 adults, 2 children our first visit. Moderate Priced Hotel. Is it better to get meal plans or not?

Hi Ronda!  My choice for moderates in the Port Orleans French Quarter or Coronado Springs resort.  For something different I would recommend the Fort Wilderness cabins.  During the holidays this is a very festive place with "sleigh" rides through-out the grounds to see all the great decorations the guests bring and display.

Depending on the age of the children you will need two rooms at the moderate resorts.  Click HERE to read all the information about these resorts. There is a junior suite at Coronado Springs that can sleep up to six that you might want to consider if it is available.  The cabins sleep 6 but it can be a squeeze as there isn't much storage/closet space for suitcases etc. Another option for you to consider is the Treehouse Villas over at Saratoga Springs resort. These are some of the newest lodging options for Disney guests and they are spacious for a great price.  You can check out the amenities and pricing by clicking HERE.

There are pros and cons for the meal plans. Many families enjoy having everything paid for when they arrive for their vacation.  Some of the plans not only take care of the basic meals but they also cover the snacks.  Other families don't want to be bothered trying to figure out how to use the dining credits and would rather just make reservations and plans on where they want to go no matter what the cost or pricing.  If you choose something like the cabins for your resort I do not recommend a meal plan since you will have a full kitchen where you can save by eating in versus eating at the parks.
