Hi! I am debating between staying at a Disney Resort Hotel or the Hyatt at MCO the night before embarkation on the Treasure, and taking the Disney Shuttle to the port. My mom has mobility issues - which option is easier?

    Hello, Michele,

Welcome back to planDisney. Thanks for the opportunity to help get ready for your special adventure aboard the Disney Treasure.

When my family sailed on the Disney Treasure last year, we stayed overnight at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. We found that the ground transportation from the hotel to the port was incredibly convenient and smooth. While I would highly recommend it for anyone, staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel and using Disney Cruise Line ground transfers has also worked out extremely well for us.

It really comes down to your personal preferences for comfort, enjoyment, and especially itinerary considerations. I personally love enjoying the theming and ambiance of Disney Resorts Collection destinations. But we chose the Hyatt Regency last year for travel convenience. Since we flew into Orlando International Airport (MCO) the day before our cruise on the Treasure and planned to visit the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks during the days following our cruise, it made more sense to choose the Hyatt for that one night rather than spend time traveling back and forth to Disney World.

One minor item to consider if limited mobility is a factor is whether using full elevators might be a concern. At the Hyatt Regency, Guests waiting for their turn to board a motorcoach sit comfortably in a conference room on the hotel's lobby level. When groups are called for their turn, they share the elevator to go down to the motorcoaches. It's a process that can take several minutes. I admit that I felt slightly anxious going through it for the first time. I was probably just excited to get on the ship as soon as I could and felt a little worried we wouldn't get on the motorcoach soon enough. But looking back on it, I realize I didn't need to feel that way. As we made our way down the elevator, there were plenty of seats on motorcoaches waiting for us at the loading area. And I appreciated how the friendly Cast Members made us feel less anxious about the new travel experiences we were having along the way.

In summary, I would recommend the pre-cruise hotel option that best fits your travel itinerary and your personal preferences for activities before and after your cruise. When you are going on a Disney cruise, it seems there aren't many ways you can go wrong!

    Have a wonderful cruise, Michele!
