Dear Mom's Panel, We are a DVC family with Disneyworld and Disney Cruise Line experience, but we've never been to Disneyland! We have a family wedding on the west coast and are finally going. What are your top picks for rides, shows and restaurants?

    Hi, Suzanne!

I’m glad you’re planning a visit to The Happiest Place on Earth during your trip to California. Your family will love exploring the magic of Disney’s original theme park!

At Disneyland Park, I love the recently-refurbished Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Indiana Jones Adventure. “Mickey and the Magical Map” is a live stage show that combines innovative technology with favorite Disney characters and songs. Be sure to make time for Fantasmic! in Disneyland Park (it’s different than Walt Disney World’s version) and stop by Fantasy Faire, just adjacent to Sleeping Beauty Castle, to meet some Disney royalty. Blue Bayou is my favorite restaurant in Disneyland Park. It’s located inside the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, and the gently-lit “outdoor” atmosphere is like no other dining experience!

You’ll want to explore Cars Land and ride Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure Park, in addition to trying Flo’s V8 Café, which features classic American cuisine. The décor is inspired by drive-up diners and features a spectacular view of cars speeding by on the Radiator Springs Racers attraction. Pay close attention to the Cadillac Mountain Range—the six peaks of the range represent Cadillac tail fins from 1957-1962! Be sure to see Cars Land during the day and also at night when the neon lights are aglow.

During World of Color, Disney California Adventure Park’s nighttime spectacular, Disney characters come to life as more than 1,000 jets of water dance to the music. A Disney FASTPASS ticket for access to the standing-room-only viewing area is required for all showings, unless you have special tickets for reserved viewing areas that are part of the World of Color dining packages.

I hope this helps, Suzanne. Please ask me more questions as you continue to plan!

    Wishing you magic,
