My DD9 and I are coming to WDW on 16-28 January 2012. I have booked 2 character breakfasts but nothing else. We aren't on DDP as renting DVC. Do I need to book ADRs for every evening? Do you need ADRs for counter services dining.

    Hi Louise:

Congratulations on nabbing some character breakfasts.  Character breakfasts tend to be very popular, so it's great that those reservations are set.

You are traveling to Disney World at a perfect time, mid-January, when crowds tend to be lighter because schools are back in session. But even though the Parks will not be as crowded as they are during peak times, popular restaurants at popular times tend to always be booked up. So the chances of you getting a walk-up reservation at a sit-down restaurant will depend on how flexible you can be with your dining times and restaurant choices. For example, your chances of getting a walk-up to Restaurant Marrakesh will be a lot better than trying to get a walk-up to popular restaurants such as Le Cellier, California Grill, or Coral Reef at 6:00 p.m. And even if you were able to secure a walk-up reservation, you may be asked to wait a while, which could make your daughter uncomfortable if she is used to eating at certain times.

For my family, we always make advance dining reservations for all of our sit-down meals, however, that plan does not work for everybody, nor is it absolutely necessary.  However, at minimum, if you really want to eat at a particular restaurant, have an old favorite restaurant you need to visit again, or are dying to try one of the new restaurants, I would strongly advise making an advance dining reservation for those restaurants so you don't miss out.

You do not need advance dining reservations for counter service restaurants.

    Enjoy your vacation.
