What is DCL policy and tolerance on using a wireless security camera to help monitor door decor? I’m worried about the potential of having magnets stolen from our stateroom door. Will a camera like a Blink camera even work on the ship?

    Hiya, Alberto!

Welcome to planDisney. I'm thrilled you are planning to enhance your voyage on the Disney Cruise Line with stateroom door decorations. My family and I love hanging our magnets on our door too. It helps bring some extra personality and fun. It also makes it easier to distinguish our door, which comes in handy when I may not be paying close attention to room numbers as I'm walking down the corridor. We like to hang magnets featuring favorite Disney characters, seasonal decor, and special celebrations for our cruise. I even have a special planDisney magnet that I proudly post on our door. Of course, we also display our Disney Vacation Club member magnet. By the sound of it, you have some amazing magnets of your own that I'm sure will make your Disney Cruise Line vacation even more magical.

I'm glad you are planning ahead to make sure you are only packing items that will be permitted on your cruise. As it turns out, many electronics may not be taken on your voyage. Included in the list of prohibited items are "streaming devices." So, unfortunately, a wireless security camera would not be allowed on the ship. It's good you are asking ahead of time. Guests who have prohibited items packed in their carry-on luggage will have them confiscated as they pass through security. If a prohibited item is packed in checked luggage, the luggage will be opened and the item confiscated, which will usually cause a delay in delivering that luggage to the stateroom. Some confiscated items may be reclaimed at the end of the cruise. Though it's usually a smoother vacation experience to avoid that extra process at the beginning and end of a cruise.

Many of the surfaces inside your stateroom will also hold a magnet. If you would like to hang your decorations inside your room, that may be an option to consider. Generally, your stateroom host will be in the vicinity of your stateroom throughout the day. While he or she won't be specifically responsible for safeguarding personal items hung on the outsides of doors, just the presence of a stateroom host in the area helps me feel comforted knowing that our safety and security are a top priority for Disney. If you're like me and excited to share the joy of your magnets with fellow passengers, you might also keep them out during the day and temporarily move them inside if you feel concern for them when there aren't normally as many crew members and other passengers walking through the halls. Here are some guidelines for stateroom and stateroom door decorations to keep in mind.

You are probably excited about your upcoming cruise, Alberto. As you continue to plan and prepare, I hope you'll keep planDisney in mind. We are a team of fellow Guests just like you. It's our privilege to share insights and advice with you. We hope we can help make your experience as magical as possible.

    Have a wonderful cruise, Alberto!
