Hey Kellie!
Thanks so much for stopping by planDisney with your question. With
Magic Key sales currently open, I'm going to jump right in so we don't waste a minute!
As of this morning, all Magic Keys are still available (hooray!), but sales could be paused at any time. I mention this because timing can be a factor when it comes to requesting upgrades for
standard theme park tickets. For multi-day tickets that are wholly unused (which it sounds like is the case for you), upgrades can be requested in person at the Main Entrance Ticket Booths. It looks like you may not be local to Southern California, so I'm not sure how feasible this may be for you ahead of your visit. The other option, which you mentioned, is to wait until you scan into the parks. A partially used ticket can be upgraded in the
Disneyland Mobile App in the "Tickets & Passes" section, provided keys are still available. Since we don't know how many keys are available, this may limit your options or sales may have closed by the time you step into the parks. I know that's not the most pixie dusted news!
Another thing to note is that the theme park reservations you've made with your standard ticket will not transfer to your Magic Key when you upgrade. Key holders have their own pool of tickets and certain days may not be available or blocked out. If you decide to upgrade ahead of your visit, I highly recommend checking the
theme park reservation calendar for your desired Magic Key to ensure reservations are still available. I would do this at the Ticket Booth itself just before the upgrade goes through as Guests are always making and canceling reservations and you want to secure your dates. This would be similar if you decide to wait to upgrade until you have scanned into the parks. Since you have a multi-day ticket, if you upgrade on the first day, you would need to secure new reservations for the rest of your trip. You have until midnight on the last day of your park ticket to upgrade. Typically, we would recommend waiting until the last day to upgrade to avoid this issue, but of course by then Magic Key sales may have closed.
I understand this may feel like a swirl of uncertainty, but I hope having the information is helpful in your planning! Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, I'm going to wish upon a star that those keys to the kingdom are in your hands in no time. Each one holds so much magic with access to the
Magic Key Terrace at California Adventure,
exclusive merchandise and photo opportunities, and even some key holder-only bites and treats. I highly recommend following along with the
Disneyland Magic Key Instagram account for the latest news and offerings to keep on top of all the fun!
Kellie, if you have any more questions, please feel free to reach back out to us. We are always here for you at
planDisney.
Magic awaits,
Tara
