We have 1-day hopper passes. Which park should we start first? My boys are 14 and 8. We like to check out the Star Wars campus, but seems like we want to go on more rides in Adventure Park. Please help us decide! Thank you! =)

Hello there Eva! We appreciate you stopping by planDisney with your question. I would be happy to give you some of my thoughts and tips on which park you should start with.

I have kids in the same age range as yours and while we love Disneyland Park and how special it is, we've ended up spending more time in Disney California Adventure Park. From what you have told me I think starting at Disney California Adventure Park might be a great option for you. I was just there this last week and chose Disney California Adventure Park as our starting park and we were able to get so much done in those morning hours before 1 p.m. when you can park hop. We love the thrill of some of the bigger rides like Incredicoaster and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! that this park has to offer. As I'm sure you know, Avengers Campus is located in this park as well and will most likely be a hit for your boys. My kids love grabbing a snack at Pym Test Kitchen and sitting out front to see which of their favorite Avengers they might see walk out on the balcony or roof of Avengers Headquarters.

Disney California Adventure Park is also home to many of the places my family prefers to dine or snack at throughout Disneyland Resort. Our favorite is Lamplight Lounge and that's where I always tell my friends to grab a reservation if possible. Now I would still definitely recommend it if you want to take a break and lounge with some fantastic foods and drinks. However, you are going to be there during Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, which is another great reason to be at this park. We are all anxiously waiting for the details of this upcoming festival, but in years past you would have found lots of great live music, culinary demonstrations, and of course great bites and drinks to highlight and celebrate the food of California. I recommend keeping an eye on the Disney Parks Blog, as this is where you will find all the details about the festival including my favorite announcement, the foodie guide!

Another reason why I suggest starting at Disney California Adventure Park is that you can start here and take as much time as you need and then hop over to Disneyland Park, which almost always has a later closing time. There's plenty of fun to have over at Disneyland Park and there's just something special about walking through the park that Walt Disney himself had walked, worked, and enjoyed with his family. This will give you the opportunity to check out Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which looks extra incredible at sunset.

Now since it looks like you only have one day to experience Disneyland Resort, and there's just SO much to do, I definitely recommend looking into Disney Genie+. I've purchased this service the last two times I've been in the parks for just a day and it really helps you maximize your time by being able to select Lightning Lane return times at many attractions.

Eva, I hope I've been able to give you a few helpful suggestions that will help you decide which park you want to start with. Whichever plans you choose, I'm sure it will be an exciting and magical adventure with your boys. Come back and visit us again if you have any other questions!
