We have 2 daughters, 3 and 5 years old, we would like to go to disney world and stay in an appropriate young kid friendly hotel (not sure how different each of the price levels are) then we would like to go from disney world to a 3/4 night disney cruise

Hi Joe!  It sounds like you are planning what will be an amazing vacation.  All of the Disney hotels are very kid friendly, though kids may prefer some over others.  I asked my own children for their opinion.  For a Deluxe resort, my 10 year old like the Beach Club because of the amazing pool there, while my 5 year old loves the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  For a Moderate resort, both prefer the Alligator Bayou section of Port Orleans Riverside.   For  a Value resort, they both like Pop Century; they like the huge, larger-than-life icons such as a Big Wheel bike, bowling pins,  giant yo-yo, etc. that can be found throughout the resort.

Since your children are young, you may be spending a lot of time in the Magic Kingdom.  Thus I recommend you consider staying in a Magic Kingdom resort to allow quick access to your hotel for a nap, afternoon break, etc.  My personal favorite is the Wilderness Lodge; it is not on the monorail line, but you can take a boat or bus to the Magic Kingdom.

My family took our first Disney Cruise last year as part of a mini-family reunion.  The ages of our group ranged from 5 years to 69.  Absolutely everybody loved it.  We signed up for a 7 night cruise and I will say that the 7 nights went by much too fast!  Some family friends who went on a 3 night Disney Cruise said that they wished they had gone on a 4 night instead; they felt they were just getting used to the ship and then it was time to get off.

Enjoy planning your vacation and write back if you have any more questions!
