Daughter's boyfriend is planning surprise proposal on their WDW trip to MK in December. He loves idea of the Capture the Moment but it says you have to check-in prior to it. He won't be able to leave her or she will know. How can he make it happen?

    Hi Teresa,

Thank you for bringing your question to planDisney! My husband proposed in Magic Kingdom and many years later I still adore hearing the stories of other Disney proposals.

My family has experienced several Capture Your Moment sessions, but they weren’t surprises. I called Disney PhotoPass Support to discuss how the check-in process works. Unfortunately, there is no way to arrange for the Magic Kingdom Capture Your Moment photographer to meet you without checking in at the Liberty Square Ticket Office. At the time of check-in, the photographer will let you know which locations are currently available. The Cast Member listed a few areas near Cinderella Castle, Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel, and by Rapunzel’s tower among possible locations.

If your daughter’s boyfriend decides to book a Capture Your Moment session, perhaps he can tell your daughter he would like a private photo session to get nice photos from their vacation. Then, he can let the photographer know that he plans on proposing to make sure the photographer is ready. In my opinion, they can even use the proposal photos to send out engagement announcements or save the dates in the future! Capture Your Moment sessions can be booked up to 60 days in advance, so according to the date you provided, they should be able to make their reservation now.

I have one more suggestion, Teresa. If your daughter and her boyfriend are staying in a Disney Resort, they can request a special message on their resort room TV. These requests are not guaranteed, but if your future son-in-law calls the Front Desk of the Resort and lets them know that he is proposing, maybe they will return to their room at the end of the day to see a special congratulations message! I wouldn’t make this phone call until the engagement is official though, just to make sure nothing is revealed too early!

I hope these ideas help, Teresa. I’m sure you’re excited for your daughter and her boyfriend. Maybe there is a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding in their future? My husband and I were also married in Disney’s Wedding Pavilion, so I’d love to hear if your daughter chooses the same! If you have any more questions, please come back to see us at planDisney!
